Help increase environmental and sustainability awareness for the Canterbury Community through recycling, environmental education and volunteering in the Lower School Garden.

Committee members are needed for multiple green reasons during the 2017-2018 school year. We will coordinate weekly pick up of plastic bags for recycling as a part of the TREX challenge. Members are also needed to volunteer in the community/lower school garden during the school day and afterschool. Opportunities will include assisting lower school science in planting, weeding, working in the greenhouse and helping during the Farmer's Market.

2017-2018 Green Committee Goals

  • REDUCE: Encourage education and support for students and families in regards to trash and waste.
  • REUSE: Continue SmartCork Collection to establish art project for school campus
  • RECYCLE: Continue TREX Plastic Bag Challenge to earn a bench for campus.
    • Garden cultivation and farmer's market for lower school science students.
  • Establish effective communication system via the Chatter for the Canterbury community regarding "Green" education and events

Volunteer Needs

  • Cork Collection - Support 4th Grade students during carpool collections - on-going and special events.
  • Plastic Bag Collection - Empty recycle bins located in Fry, Armfield, Berry, Haley Athletics, Admin Office. Deliver collections to Harris Teeter (1 time a week)
  • Garden volunteers: watering, weeding and assisting Lower School Science in the garden and greenshouse throughout the year.
  • Farmer's Market volunteers

5th Grade Green Event

This volunteer will work with 5th grade teachers and committee members to coordinate GTA Hybrid Bus Ride, Proximity Hotel Tour and Bus Depot Tour
Proximity Hotel/Greensboro Transit Authority Tour Coordinator - This volunteer will work with the 5th grade teachers to coordinate the GTA Hybrid bus ride, tour of depot and Proximity Hotel.

Shred - It Fund Raiser Coordinator - This volunteer will work with a Shred company to coordinate the fund raiser.
